Having the Same Interest in Sports

My second daughter Gen took after my interest in joining and playing various sports. I’ve played football, volleyball, table tennis, bowling and some other sports when I was in college and still single. I became too busy when I got married and had kids so I stopped my sports. I missed it and I gained pounds because of lack of sports activities that’s why I returned to walking and badminton. That’s the least I could do with myself, I can’t fit it in my schedule and I had no choice.

Now I’m seeing myself in my daughters especially Gen who in her primary schooling represented the school and joined chess competition amidst her academic competitions. She’s a very competitive student and she always tries to achieve whatever goal she has. The other day we were talking about sports and they made me tell stories about my football sports in college. I told them that I want a fantasy football trophies then but it’s only a dream because my best sports are tennis and bowling. I’m just a middle range player in football and it’s only a hobby sports for me I never pursued playing it after school. Well obviously it runs in the blood now that they also like most of the sports I love.

These are shots from my daughter's Science exhibit which she attended together with her classmates.  They've rounded up several booths showing gadgets, machines and some science innovations.  It's fun for them and I'm glad she brought the camera with her bringing home plenty of pictures for my photo storage :D.

Chosen this one for my entry because I love the beautiful colors of these balloons and the presentation.  Btw this tall group of balloons was used on my son's school activities particularly the health month last year.  Each grade level presented their version of healthy foods and gave each student a small serving of their prepared food.  The student contributed for it and they're also the recipients.  It was a very festive celebration filled with foods, toys, books and contented smile of little girls and boys.

:FF/FTP : School Farewell Foods

These are some of the foods at Gen's Grade V farewell party in school sponsored by top ten students of section 1. Gen got the 4th place and she happily came up the stage once more getting the reward for all her efforts and perseverance in studying. We decided to buy donuts as Gen told me that her classmates will surely love it. Four boxes were enough for them because some didn't attend the farewell and recognition activities because it falls on holy week. Some spent their vacation on their provinces. There were different kinds of pancit and bibingka, pandan gelatin, drinks and some other foods.

Finished With School Activities and Ceremonies

Still feeling tired after the weekly school activities of my kids. The first week was my little boy's moving up ceremony, the second one was daughter Gen's recognition ceremony in school which seems like a graduation ceremony to me for having consumed around two hours including the waiting time. I still have to post the recognition pics and this morning was my eldest daughter Ruth's graduation from primary school.

It was a relief finishing these activities and I was happy that they have done their best in school even if Ruth didn't made it to the top. I was happy that she easily passed her entrance exam for the christian school we both want. They were happy that we celebrated their Ate's graduation with lunch in their favorite KFC and gaming moments in Tom's World. I'll post these activities soon! I'll rest for now!

:RT/WW - School Play - Snow White

This is the story play of Gen's classmates last month featuring Snow White and the Seven Little Dwarfs. They were grouped into 5 and tasked to pick a play to perform on stage. This is just one of their lessons in English but it took all groups to practice for 5 months. All of them changed their chosen stories for many times and every time they change their story the complete play changes, it was tiring because their weekends were always spent in school to practice.

Anyway according to their adviser all group presentations are good and they delivered the play with good diction, expression and all things needed for the play. Anyway it's not my daughter's group as they did the Rumpelstiltskin story. I just thought this one is good for RT and WW!

Reserving Venue for Graduation

My friend and parent president for the graduating class of SJES dropped by the house and showed me the venue pictures she found for us to hire. It’s just one village away from the school and the fee is so low. The place is big enough for 500 persons which includes students and parents/guardians. The gymnasium which was used by the previous graduates was now being occupied by the victims of the big flood and they still live there so that left us with no choice but to find a big place for the event. The school’s new stage and ground can’t accommodate the needed 500 plus seats so Janet has to secure another place. We’ll just wait for the fixed graduation date to keep things moving. Meanwhile Janet has already reserved the last week of March then we’ll set a meeting for the whole PTA graduation officers and that’s it!

Mom’s Concerns

I’ll be dropping by my daughters’ school later in the afternoon to watch the crowning of Ms. San Juan, a fundraising campaign of the school for their big project in school. I was quite impressed with the one who thought about this contest as you only have to donate one peso coin to your chosen candidate. It’s the minimum donation or contribution and it could be higher than that. There’s no maximum amount as to how many you want to give the candidate and the PTA officers added up a talent portion to make the contest not just a money contest.

Anyway I’ll just peek at the contest later because I was invited by some of the officers there and my kids wanted to watch the coronation also. They were not allowed by us to stay in school after 6pm and I have to be there for them. I would be seeing some of my Mommy friends there and as always we’ll talk about kids, their grades, the candidate for honors on March and some other personal Mom concerns about cooking, dieting, weight loss products, beauty tips, work, business and many more. If you see us in group you’ll be amazed at how we can laugh our worries and problems away. Anyway it’s how you carry it that matters!

I ♥ Faces - Halloween Dress Up

This is my son Josh in Robin costume and his friend Carl in Count Dracula costume in their Halloween/Costume party in St. Audry learning center last year. Josh should be posing with Batman here as his partner but Batman was nowhere in sight so Count Dracula teamed up with him lol :-) Anyway they're the best of friends in school and also in our community as Carl lives three blocks away from us.

Searching for Josh Costume

I’m searching for Josh costume for their party on Wednesday. Every year they have this costume party held on last week of October. For two years he used his Robin costume but this year I want another character or another kind of costume. Just this morning Josh was telling me if he could wear scary costume. I told him it will not fit him and I don’t want him to look like a zombie or Frankenstein even on costume only. We were both looking and searching online for possible costume and I pointed out to him that it’s not necessarily a scary Halloween clothes or look but anything that will look like a costume. After one hour of explanation he succumbed and we settled for Spiderman. Of course he loves Spiderman it’s one of his favorites.

Ako'y Isang Pinoy

Josh school had their Linggo ng Wika celebration last friday. Again parents and guardians were requested to join our kids to assist them in their costumes and to see their prepared presentation. As always every student has his/her own participation in their program. Josh was asked to prepare polo, maong pants, shades, toy guitar and long hair wig. For what? Their group was assigned to sing a Freddie Aguilar song 'Ako'y Isang Pinoy' (I am a Filipino).

We had a hard time choosing hats that resembles Freddie's but Redge was offered a nice rounded hat by her officemates, but for the log hair wig I decided not to follow as it's hard to look for long straight hair wig. The one that was rented to Josh was very feminine with brown color and a little curly, I wouldn't have it and Josh didn't want those pins in his head also. Anyway all kids didn't wear their wigs so my decision was right.

Gen Joined Chess Tournament

Gen was again busy with her extracurricular activities these days but this time she’s into sports and she’s joined the chess elimination in her school, luckily she passed and started competing last Wednesday. And oh she made me buy her a new big chess board and gave her old small one to Josh which she’s training also. If you can see them playing you’ll laugh out loud as Josh always want to take all the soldiers (poon) and he doesn’t care about the king lol! He knows the entire move and the rules but he told that those are his favorites.

Well anyway as of this day Gengen have 2 loses and 2 wins and she’s happy that she was sure to have additional grades as her teachers in Science and Math promised to give them incentives or additional extra curricular points once they win once or twice in 7 rounds. At home we all played games with her to practice her moves and I can see that she was very happy with it. >Win or lose I’ll give her a price!

:WS - Induction of Officers

We had the first ever induction of officers where all homeroom officers from all grade level and section were included not just the usual general PTCA officers. The only difference is that the general PTCA were inducted on the stage and all homeroom were there offstage because we're 200 plus in numbers. All previous induction only includes general PTCA officers but since we're aiming for a general project which we're requesting from our municipality and provincial desk we organized a rare occasion like this.

We're assigned in the food committee which made it more difficult for us in grade V level (orange group) because we didn't expected a very big crowd and we used all our budgeting skills and talents to serve the foods to them. Oh boy that's too much! I was tired from head to toes! Lucky that one of us cooked baked macaroni for our food after the event or else we're gonna be starved. Though we're tired and haggard after the event and dismayed that I didn't get a pic with mayor and young governor we were happy enough. We were laughing happily at our faults and experiences in serving the food. We'll get more organized and possibly better next time! Next time? Hope we'll not be in the food committee again :-) Wishes!

Devoting Time to My Children

Since I’ve resigned from my work almost a month ago I’ve devoted my time to my family especially attending to my kids’ school activities. Lucky that the time I was permitted by my boss with my resignation the activities in my daughters’ school began to multiply. Now it’s occupying most of my time that sometimes my online work gets noticed and done at night. I was happy with my life’s pattern now and can honestly say giving not only quality time to my kids but quantity as well. School time gets the most time of my kids so I visit them on lunch breaks every other day to assist them in any way I can. As this is the first periodical period in primary school they have plenty of projects to finish and parents should help them in some projects that need online research.

I can see that Gen and Ruth became more dedicated in their academic and extra curricular activities owing to the fact that I’m always there for them whatever and whenever. I’ve always been this way but hours spent in my office works deprived me from other assistance they need. Now they know I’m just working at home and they feel confident that I’m only a phone call away just in case they need something. Children love being pampered most of the times. They also liked it when parents provide them with all the things they need.

Actually it’s also a privilege to us parents to provide them with school supplies, shoes, bags and everything they need. Sometimes if we can’t do the shopping outside because of busy schedule we can do our shopping online. There are online stores like doittennis.com who can provide busy moms with kids’ essentials like School Backpacks and other items for our dearest children. Shopping there can save you time and effort compared to shopping in malls. I’ve checked the site and found that there are many available styles and designs to fit my children’s requirements with brands that spell durability and quality.

Inter-School Journalism Competition

Early in the morning both my daughters joined the team that will compete in an inter-school Journalism contest, it actually started yesterday but the real competition is only today. I didn’t go with them as it’s a whole day affair and Josh will be alone with my Mom the whole day and he needs to review for his last day of examination tomorrow. Anyway I taught my kids on the basic of writing a good post with some relevance to journalism.

Ruth just joined the Filipino journalism club last Saturday and she was picked to join the group yesterday. Actually I just learned it in the afternoon when I visited their school. They had a late notification that Filipino journalism will be competed together with English. I can feel the rush preparation of school teachers assigned to head and manage the team. It’s hard to work like that especially if you’re dealing with kids. The other English journalism competition is a little bit prepared as Gen has been joining journalism classes for one month now on a twice in a week schedule. Hope the school will meet a good competition and bring home awards or ranks at the least. Good luck to the whole team!

Outer Banks Rental

Wow I never thought that being a Mom can be so busy that it surpassed my work when I’m still in the office. Yes I’m just referring on my kids’ school activities which are taking so much of my time. I’m happy that I can assist and concentrate on them now. They have so many activities including that inter-school academic competition which sometimes need to give some time dedication. I even went with Gen last Friday on Math Camp and I had a great time with few friends there, also the parents of Gen’s classmates. It’s a different feeling that I felt last Friday, I somehow thanked that I’ve already resigned from my office job or else my kids wouldn’t be so active now. I felt that they gained strength from knowing that I’m always there for them whenever and wherever unlike when I was working away from home that my time is only limited.

As their periodicals is also approaching fast we really have a very hectic schedule and I’m longing for next week when I can rest from too much school activities and concentrate for awhile on writing inspirational posts on my sites. I’m also hoping for some nice and relaxing vacation on a place by the beach like what I saw on Outer Banks rentals vacation packages. It really excites me seeing those accommodations they have which provides a nice vacation rental where you can enjoy the beach, savor the convenience of a rental homes and cottages that will make you relaxed and comfortable while enjoying the beautiful scenic view of dunes and ocean. What a lovely thought!

Meeting on Induction of Officers

We had a meeting in my kids’ school where all PTA officers from all grade level and sections were invited. We held it in the school library to have a quiet atmosphere, as always attendance is only 50% of the expected attendees. The meeting is for the upcoming induction of officers on Friday where high officials will officiate. This is the first induction that will be attended by both our town mayor and provincial governor so we’re preparing (even if a little rush) some programs and food for the occasion. We were promised by the mayor’s staff that we’ll have official clothes for the occasion but due to some delay we’ll prepare our own designated clothes, we were again given an orange color for our level.

After an hour or two of discussing the program layout and food each grade level shouldered different food, we’ll cook chicken hamonado for 200 plus people and we’ll discuss the meeting and agenda with some of our co-officers in other sections of our 5th grade level. We’ll finalize our assigned food on Wednesday as we’ll wait for the other officers. As it’s about kids’ departure time I waited for them. They’re in the district school where they had journalism competition, together with some of their classmates (around 6 per subject) Gen will compete for English journalism and Ruth for Filipino journalism.

At Their Beck and Call

I’m spending the day with little time to blog, actually I’m sneaking to do my assignments because my kids has plenty of their school assignments too and they need to do research online, our other PC is down so I have no choice. It will be a hectic week ahead of us because this coming week is their First Periodical exam meaning I have to assist them in their reviews especially Josh who is in Preparatory level. I was really wondering because it seems that I’m busier these days than when I’m working on an 8-5 office schedule. Nope I have no regrets whatsoever, I’m busier now but absolutely happier as I get to help my kids in their academic studies besides encouraging them in joining multiple school clubs and extra curricular activities. Now that I have my own time schedule I can be at their beck and call anytime they need me and that’s for me an essence of being a Mom.

:Food Friday - Nutritional Foods (Togue)

This is our entry on Nutritional Foods Competition in last month's celebration of nutrition month.
Tofu was cut into small squares, dip in soy sauce then breaded before frying to make tofu chicharon. After the togue veggies are cooked the crispy breaded tofu was put on top of the vegetables.

I like trying various tofu recipes as it's not only healthy but it's also economical.

They'll Use My Recipe

Got to hurry up now as I'll be assisting Ruth in her cooking class later in the afternoon. I promised her that I'll drop by their school to hand over my digicam or mobile phone cam. This is their first cooking demonstration for this school year and they will be doing spaghetti which I personally cooked and demonstrated to her last Saturday. She took down notes and even if she's not the leader this time (they're having a roundup of leaders every cooking session) she'll be teaching her group how to cook spaghetti ala mommy - that's me of course :-). She's a big fan of my spaghetti and she told me they'll be using my recipe. Actually to my happiness at what she had told me I made her add a half kilo to her original one kilo recipe in case the teachers would ask for more :-). I paid for the added items.
