Weekend Eating Together

>> Saturday, July 3, 2010

It’s going to rain I think because I can hear thunders rolling down the sky. Few minutes back the sky is so clear but now it’s beginning to dark. Anyway DH bought some camote fries and sweet banana-ques and I cooked gelatin for our food while watching cable. Weekend is really for eating and watching television together and if days will always be like this I think I will need some fat burners like curvatrim. Glad they have classes five days of the week so I’ll be spared from eating too much lol!

When the kids are not around I limit my intake of sweet foods. I have no problem about fatty foods because we’re not serving that on the table except on some occasions where it can’t be avoided. Well got to get ready for the big rain and possible brownout again.

:FF/FTF : Siomai Soup

>> Friday, May 28, 2010

Now it rained and it cooled down the hot temperature this night. I'm looking forward to a nice steaming soup like this one which I called Siomai soup because I forgot to ask its name when Iya had her christening. It's a starter to a lunch or dinner buffet. I got the name from the contents of the soup which are steamed pork siomai, molo wraps (I think :-)) and some ingredients for the soup itself. I'm sorry for the guess as I'm just a visitor there and not the cook.
Anyway it's a good starter especially if you're hungry enough to eat a couple of horses as what the old folks has been telling me when I was a child in our hometown province. Well pork siomai is my favorite and I also like it without the soup, steamed or fried is perfect for me with chili sauce hmm yummy!

:FF/FTP : Chicken Cordon Bleu

>> Friday, April 16, 2010

This is one of the potluck foods in our 50th alumni and I haven't posted it because I'm not sure of the name of this food. It was ordered from Wow-Lu restaurant and from what I've tasted from it's made of potatoes and chicken shreds. It's a finger food and so yummy good that it's gone in several minutes.

Anyway my friend used to work as part-time party coordinator in some of the restaurant's birthday and wedding caterings and she supplied me with a name for this one. It's a chicken cordon bleu according to her. Well I was assuming that it's a potato something name but as my friend Jannet told me it's a chicken cordon bleu. Thanks friend for the name and I hope it's right lol!

Now I was thinking of ordering it for Mom's birthday so I can confirm it's name. I can't contact my classmate who ordered it so is there anyone here who can confirm me?

:FF/FTP : Cassava Cake

>> Friday, March 26, 2010

This is the cassava cake we ate at the recent 50 years golden anniversary of our high school. We decided to have a potluck because it's easier to bring different foods. We emailed each planned food so there will be no duplication. Bes JennyL and me decided to share on Lumpiang Shang-hai. On that evening our batch looked like we're in a birthday party with balloons and cheers. One of our classmates brought this very special cassava cake which is delicious. So delicious that we brought home some of this :-)

Mom’s Old Medicinal Books

>> Wednesday, March 17, 2010

I’m reading my Mom’s old books to look for medicinal plants that can be used for simple sickness in the house. I feel I should know things like that because I don’t want to rely much on the drugs available in the market. I know that oregano leaves can cure simple cough and very good for babies and toddlers. It’s a mild formula for them and it promotes good health too, you can even take them when you’re not coughing. It can also be used for cooking. Well I also found in my Mom’s book some foods that burn fat and I jotted them down immediately for myself since I feel I’m gaining some pounds lately.

Since I can’t consult my doctor right now I feel safe using natural herbs. I'm also taking plenty of vegetables and fruits everyday for fiber supplement. I’ve been reading a lot these days about health and home because I’m planning to open another site with that kind of category. My Mom’s books are really the best book for me as it answers most of my researching that I can’t find on the net.

What Does Your Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich Say About You?

>> Tuesday, December 8, 2009

I love sandwiches especially when I have many fillings on it. I like to experiment on combinations that's why I like double sandwiches, i can actually have it for lunch.

Your PB and J Says You're Demure and Dainty

Your eating style is reserved. You are a bit of a fussy eater, and you have very specific ways you like your food prepared.

You have an average sweet tooth. While you enjoy desserts, they aren't exactly your downfall.

Your taste in food tends to be quite eclectic and wide. You are an adventurous eater, and you like many types of cuisines.

Admit it, you're a little trashy and low class at times. You're definitely more comfortable at a tattoo parlor than the theater.

You never really grew up. While your childlike innocence is charming, you often just come across as a big baby.

Precise and controlled, you can be a bit anal retentive when it comes to how you like things. You're definitely a perfectionist.

:Food Friday - Chicken Curry

>> Friday, December 4, 2009

We dined in one of the restaurants along Kamias Ave. near our church and Josh instantly love my chicken curry order. It's his first time to taste it and he love it so when we arrived home he asked me to cook chicken curry in our house. As it's also one of my preferred chicken recipe I immediately cooked the day after he requested me. When he tasted it he told me that it's better than his first chicken curry, I'm a proud mommy of course lol!

:Food Friday - Coleslaw

>> Friday, November 20, 2009

Let's get healthy this week as my entry today is coleslaw salad, a combination of cabbage, mayonnaise, dash of salt, pinch of pepper with toppings of cucumber and tomatoes. Hmmm this is so good for me especially after eating fried chicken, it's as if I'm eating in fastfood resto where you can have this as side dish. Btw you can add variations to mayo if you want to further improve it.

:Food Friday - Oven-Baked Chicken

>> Friday, October 23, 2009

Before

After

This oven-baked chicken is actually meant for chicken adobo when my kids requested me to bake it instead of cooking it in the pan. Josh was the most insistent one as he picked the drumstick part of the chicken to be his piece when cooked. He offered himself as my assistant and he brings to me whatever I asked him to get from the ref.

Mom told me that I have two aspiring cook in the future, one is my eldest 12-year old Ruth and 6-year old Josh. My other kid is contented in eating as she has the biggest appetite among the three. Anyway cooking has been my parents' specialty so it's not surprising that my kids will love to cook also. In my family both men and women knows how to cook but the women takes the primary role :-)

So now here goes my adobo ala baked chicken which I added some out-of-the-blue ingredients which means not in the recipe book. I always love cooking in my original simple way. I don't want to pattern my cooking to others. I always put something that's originally me, so much for the talk, happy friday to everyone!

Bulk and Save!

>> Thursday, October 22, 2009

Do you have a sweet tooth? Well for kids the answer can be yes as you’ll notice they’re excited every time they see candies and chocolates. I know this because I have three kids and they really love delicious confections and sweet treats. I let them eat sweets but remind them that they should balance it with other foods for health reasons. How could I deprive them of these things when I love chocolates and confections too! So I can say we have a sweet tooth, the whole family I think! We’re just lucky that every now and then we received packages containing our favorite chocolates from my SIL who lives in Trent G.B. and some others from friends who love to give delicious treats to my kids especially to Josh whose charm works for many people. My Mom’s friends used to give him delicious cookies and chocolates when they visit her and he loves it.

My friends told me that it’s better to buy bulk candy if you need big volumes of sweet treats for occasion or for gift-giving on holidays. It’s nice to give candies and chocolates on holidays because almost everyone loves it. I know my SIL buy bulk candy too when she shop for her balikbayan package because it’s cheaper and she’ll save a lot of money when she do it. I’ve been thinking of doing this also when I need for occasion giveaways and I know Sugar Stand has all the best sweet treats and delicious confections for all members of the family with its healthy snacks, bulk candy, chocolate candy bars, lollipops and many delicious items.

Bulk orders are good also for company events, fundraising programs, party, wedding and some other occasion that needs giveaways. Sugar Stand online store will never be short of sweet treats and fun snacks for all occasion so it’s best to browse their site and choose what you like. Remember to buy in bulk and save money!

Bible Study Host

>> Wednesday, October 21, 2009

We’re the host for dinner in our church bible study today and I’ve planned to cook menudo. Our bible study is being attended by 80% of our church members which is at least 50 members. I’ve planned to serve pork barbeques but changed my mind as I want some saucy food this time. I’m going to stop working this afternoon so I can start cooking because I have to be ready by six pm. I just have to post my Wednesday weekly meme for two of my blogs then I’m all set for cooking and later to our bible study. Cooking for 50 people is not that easy so I’m giving myself some time so I will not be tired on our fellowship. Hope they will like our food also :-)

:Food Friday - Banana Heart Lumpia

>> Friday, October 16, 2009

Been craving for veggies this week especially those coming from the north. I can't cook chopsuey now as it's too expensive to have one and I find it hard to look for complete ingredients. Anyway I have to content myself with some veggies available monggo sprout (togue), monggo beans, kangkong and some others. I'm looking for an entry this friday and I've found this Banana Heart Lumpia, one of the many entries in our July's nutrition week. Actually this has won together with Banana Heart burger patties.

:Food Friday - Pianono

>> Friday, September 25, 2009

Just posted my favorite bread in every bakeshop I happen to pass by, it's the old good 'pianono' (have I spelled it correctly?). Just can't resist this type of baked goodies and it's been my favorite since I was a child. During those days there's only one flavor and color and that's the creamy colored pianono. Now the bakeshop near us have 4 flavors, the original creamy one which is supposed to be marble, then they have ube, mocca and choco flavors. I love all except ube! In contrary Josh loves ube! This one in the pic is really yummy and tastes like cake, know what? it's only PhP3.00 per piece!!!

Happy Food Friday to all, see other yummy foods here!

Snack on a Lazy Afternoon

>> Monday, September 21, 2009

Its past lunchtime now and my eyes were slowly drooping down, today is a holiday because it’s the end of the Ramadan holiday and all my kids and sister are all here with us. I’m thinking about what snack to have now and was having an imaginary inventory of the bread in the nearest bakeshop in our area.

Well they have everything you would ask for, all flavors of cakes, egg pies, ensaymada, pianono, mamon, custard cakes, crinkles and many others. I decided on ensaymada and some loaf breads and since it’s raining this time I’m going to have coffee with it. It’s my second coffee today and it’ll be my last. I’m having a counter on my intake and I’m serious on having a maximum of two cups only per day. Just can’t resist having it on such a cold, rainy and silent afternoon, it’s nice to cuddle up too! I’ll do it when I finished my work.

Chocoholic Family!

>> Saturday, September 19, 2009

Who doesn’t love chocolates? Actually I’ve known only one or two friends that doesn’t love chocolates that much for certain health reasons. Majority loves chocolates, its one food that not only children loves to eat but the grownups as well. I will not cite other people as examples as I’m the perfect example who loves chocolates to the maximum level. When I was a little child and living in the province my father would always bring me chocolates on midweek and weekends from his hometown because there’s a factory of chocolates near their area.

When we finally settled in my father’s town when I was in grade school I was awed by the smell coming from the chocolate factory. It always excites me to imagine how they make chocolate candies there. If only I was a grown up then maybe I would like to work there. That’s the fanciful thoughts of a child. Now that I’m a mother of 3 kids I have noticed that all my children got my liking for chocolate candy as they really love it when you bring them chocolates. Even on some food they love them in chocolate flavors.

I’m just taking some precautions on how my kids take chocolate candies because if they eat it with no limitations they might increase their blood sugar level so I told me to take it slowly although I understand them as I’m a chocolate lover also. I should tell them this as sometimes we really get plenty of supply when my SIL’s packages would arrive from G.B. and my MIL would distribute it among families. Would you believe that my Mom-in-Law will reserve the largest Toblerone for me and the kids? She’ll save it as she knows we love it lol!

Anyway we also like some brands such as Hershey’s, Snickers and more as we are not so picky about chocolate candies, we love them all in plain, nuts, mint, almond and any toppings or flavors of it. That just shows that you can call us ‘chocoholic family’. By the way you can order chocolate online from Sugar Stand. They have wide variety of chocolate candy stocks and they offer chocolate delivery in fresh and perfect condition.
