Types of Scholarships for Private School Students

>> Friday, July 6, 2018

Between public and private schools and a large number of charter schools popping up across the country, parents have more options than ever before as to where they send their children. Charter schools often offer vouchers and have special programs that bring down the cost of classes. Private schools charge a tuition rate that many parents cannot afford though, which is why they send their kids to public schools. No matter what your financial situation looks like, you'll find scholarships that help you afford the cost of a good private school for your child.

Need Scholarships

Many schools today offer scholarships based on the financial need of their parents. One example is the McKay scholarships Tampa parents can use to send their kids to a private school. You usually need to submit documents that show how much money you and your spouse make each year. If you are a single parent, you may submit your most recent tax records and supply a copy of your more recent pay stubs. These scholarships range in size based on how much financial need your family has. You may need to pay a set amount of pocket, though some scholarships will cover the total cost of tuition.

Merit Scholarships

If your child receives good grades in school, you can look at merit scholarships. Merit scholarships only go to the best and brightest students around. Some programs look at the grades that the student received and how those grades compare to the other students applying for a scholarship. You may find programs that award students financial help based on how well they perform on standardized tests. Some schools even have tests that students will take, which determine their IQ figures and if they would do well in that school.

As a parent, you care about your children and what the future holds for them. Many parents find that private schools offer more opportunities for their kids than other schools do. You can look at both merit and need scholarships to cover the costs of sending your child to one of these schools.
