Getting Ready for your First Job Interview

>> Thursday, July 7, 2011

Finally the moment that you’ve been waiting for is here. After years of studying, you got a phone call for a job interview. Fresh graduates and even those who are looking for a job could consider this as one nerve wracking yet totally happy moment in life. If this is going to be your first interview, then you might be clueless about the procedures and how to present yourself in an impressive manner.

Remember that is very important to set a good first impression. First thing that you should keep in mind is to do not be late for the interview. Come at least 10-15 minutes before your appointment in order to have enough time to relax and freshen up. Present yourself in a formal manner. Now it doesn’t mean that you have to show up wearing expensive clothing, but a well pressed outfit along with a clean pair of shoes will certainly do. Women should also put a little effort in grooming by making sure that your hair will not be a distraction and men should shave before the interview date.

Stay calm and listen carefully to the questions being asked. Give clear and direct answers as much as possible. Most companies have a full schedule of applicants to interview which means that you only have a few minutes. Highlight your strengths and abilities.

It will also be good to do a little research with regards to the company’s background so that you can incorporate this aspect on your answers. Last tip, always keep an eye contact with the interviewer.
