Choosing Your Career

Choosing career need not be too hard if you focus not just on your skills and intelligence but on your passion as well. My younger daughter who loves music and plays various musical instruments asked me if she could take up music. I told her to think it over as she can study music anytime she wants even after she has finished a college course that would ensure her of work stability in the future. I advised her to think deeper of her goals and dreams and she can take up both if she desires. She’s just very interested and fascinated with music that her attention is focused on having as many instruments as she wants like the acoustic di box at guitar center, new piano or any instrument that fancies her young mind. 

Well I’m proud that like my grandfather, uncle and brother she inherited our ancestors’ talent in music and that she can use it in our church. It will not in any way complicate with her dreams.

Business and Music

We’ve been thinking of a good business to start next year as my sister and I are looking through some possibilities of making it good in some kind of retail business. It’s actually my plan five years ago when I resigned from my 16-year old job but I found myself so engrossed in online writing that it was put aside. Paid blogging was at its peak then and starting a business of my own may not be a good idea since I’m busy with my writing career. 

Anyway since we’re really thinking of adding up a new source of income to our current office salaries we’re considering of putting up a general merchandise shop that would have three kinds of semi-stores such as meat shop, school and office supplies and electronics/computer supplies. Well it’s a kind of shop that will serve as an outlet for the things that we often need in school and home without going too far from your home. 

It’s still in the planning stage for now and since my kids are so fond of musical instruments the idea of adding a music store might be a good one. Of course it will have our favorite string instruments like the Jay Turser Guitars I found online, violin, keyboards, drum sets and other musical instruments commonly used by hobbyists and enthusiasts. I know that music awareness can really be of great help to prevent children and teenagers from engaging in various vices. It will be an added skill as well.

Working in Projects

We’re approaching the last phases of our work in our project but I still can’t project if we can finish the project by the end of this year. We’ve requested for a realignment and extension until next month but it’s still in process so we really can’t tell how long we’ll be employed for the said project. I’m actually concerned with the CAD operators because for extension project nearing the end of contracts they usually minimize the number of staff and operate on a skeletal force. 

With the progress we’re having the first group to finish will be the design plans group and as early as now some of them were given a month extension only. Oh well after the end of this one I’ll start another one again which if plans pushed through will be a longer term design and construction project. Even if there’s an opening in the head office I still prefer to be in the project as I feel more comfortable and I learn a lot. 

Sixteen years in the head office is just enough for me, I want to enjoy my work life now in the project with more work but with less stress. I don’t want to grow old early with anxiety and work-related problems like my friend whose now wearing hair wigs to cover up receding and grey hairs brought about by being workaholic and too much stress.

Some Things that Keeps Me Away from Work

My work fills most of my time away from my home and family so when I want to do something other than my office routines I do it on break time. If all of my office mates were either doing online browsing or resting I spend my time doing my online writing. Sometimes I feel like I’m a robot or something for spending all of my time on work but it’s the real me – a certified workaholic. Well few times I give myself a break and wind away from computer and bond with office friends but most of the times I fill my spare time with worthwhile browsing. 

Anyway if there are things that keep me away from work it’s browsing favorite sites for good reads and online window shopping for shoes, bags, gadgets and musical items for the family. Lately my dear daughter has been coaching me to look at gutar center for her favorite musical instrument and accessories. Her own guitar is not in good condition and she’s just using a borrowed one in practicing her musical pieces. Next month she’ll be performing as musician in their mini play presentation and as early as now she’s using all her spare time to master her craft. Work Challenges and Learning Experiences

My work involves administering technical employees in a particular project assigned to us. Since the project is a joint venture of two companies my job requires me to report to both and be responsible for all reports and administration of the whole project. I’m also assigned to submit pertinent data needed for the payroll and do the monthly billing due to our government client.

It’s both an easy and hard work and I’m happy with what I’m doing but at times I need to research and study the things that I’m not familiar with such as figuring where to find a wireless trail camera or making an inventory of survey equipment that I have just seen for the first time. Well everything can be learned just as long as the person is willing and interested so I take every unfamiliar task as a work challenge and in time I know it will broaden my work knowledge. And with every learning experience I go through I’m confident that it will be an added skill on me.

I was so busy arranging the enrollment of my incoming freshman student in college that I suddenly have no time for myself. I always go to work in a hurry that I don’t think twice if my attire is right for my bag and shoes. Well I’m simple but I still need to dress up a bit in case my boss requires me to accompany him to his meetings with associates and partner. I don’t want to be under dressed on a meeting even if I know that on some people that we meet it doesn’t matter. Work Colleague Getting Married

One of my former colleagues at work is getting married not later than this year and we’re all happy for him. He’s been driving himself crazy over his work for the past several years and it’s high time that he should be thinking of his personal life. He’s now the administrator of a well-known shopping mall in the city and he couldn’t be happier in his career except that he’s still single.

As he’s now contemplating on the date of his marriage we told him that he deserve one of those mens platinum wedding bands as a gift to himself for working so hard all these years. Of course he should be getting his bride a nice diamond band too. Such beautiful wedding bands for a hardworking couple and hope their love will last forever.

Insurance Industry Urged to Help Cut Asbestos Deaths

The insurance industry is being urged to fund research into mesothelioma, the deadly cancer affecting the lungs which is caused by breathing in asbestos dust.

The call for more research into the disease came from the British Lung Foundation’s honorary medical adviserDr John Moore-Gillon, a respiratory health expert.

Little is known about mesothelioma, despite the fact that the UK has the world’s highest rates of the disease. What we do know is that those affected are often people who worked in certain industries during the 1980s when asbestos was used extensively. Back then, there was little asbestos awareness, not to mention the training or asbestos certification that’s available today.

The disease is most prevalent in those who worked in industries like construction, shipbuilding, engineering and power generation, where there was a greater risk of heavy exposure to asbestos.

We also know that around 2,000 people are diagnosed with the disease each year and that the Department for Work and Pensions has estimated a death toll of between 56,000 and 63,000 over the next 30 years if current trends continue.

Although the symptoms of mesothelioma can take decades to develop, once diagnosed mesothelioma is a swift killer,with many people living just months after their diagnosis. There is no cure and there are currently few effective treatments.

With asbestos related diseases continuing to blight the lives of those who have been exposed to the killer substance as well as their families, the call for research into the disease is gaining momentum.

Having insurers fund research into mesothelioma could be turn the tide on this deadly disease. More research could change the long-term outlook for those affected by mesothelioma and their families. 

But it could also work in the favour of the insurance companies too, by seeing the amount of compensation they have to pay out decrease.

Insurers are expected to end up paying out more than £11bn in compensation in the coming years. If a fraction of this could be used to fund research into mesothelioma, it could benefit some of the thousands of people affected, not to mention society as a whole.

Promising Career in Time

Work is up to my neck these days though I must admit I enjoy my work now than before. I always love my job because I see it as a blessing from God and it helps me in supporting my kids’ education. We’ve grown so close together having been in same school all throughout our life from primary to college, been at the same house since birth and attending the same church for over 20 years as well that we want also to share the same business. 

As we’re going through all possibilities we’re prioritizing bankable field of business like franchise of salable food items, rentals of some sorts and maybe a school supplies or music store which we’re also fond of. We love music and as such we will love to have a one-stop-shop for musical instruments and various music items or accessories. Since not all people will be able to afford expensive items all the times we want some quality inexpensive instruments for the clients we’re targeting. 

I just heard that one of our church mate’s son has been eyeing some cheap drum sticks at wwbw when he browsed it online and we’re thinking that it would also be nice to have an online store also to display the goods we have for the music enthusiast. Well these are just some of our business plans and whatever pushes through I know God had His way on it for the business to flourish and give us enough income to live by. Hope we’ll be able to think further and come up with the right business for the two of us.

Generally, the debt issued by the government to build things is subject to arbitrage depending on how the proceeds are stored. Arbitrage came about because the government doesn’t want businesses or people to get the money, put it in a high yield investment, and profit from it. If arbitrage did not exist, debt might be issued sooner and remain out longer.

Pluses and Minuses

The reason that arbitrage calculation is so hard is that most investments do not just go up. Typically speaking, an investment will fluctuate with the market. The first six months it might fluctuate between a positive 10 and 12%, and the next three months it falls to -3%. Getting a tax specialist involved who knows the rules of arbitrage and how to mitigate the financial losses will help any company that has government money long enough to want to invest it to stave off inflation concerns.

Considerations in Managing Business and Your Job

Managing a business is quite hard especially at the start up because you have to consider several factors to ensure that your business will succeed. You have to make a feasibility study to know if it will work out and make profit. Then you have to consider your financial budget and the kind of business you want to build because it should be managed by someone who knows the ins and outs so if you don’t have the expertise on the business you want you can hire someone who can give you a hand on that. After these considerations you can now think of manpower of staff that will run the business and work for its success. 

Every business has its high and peak moments and you should be able to prepare for it. You must give it a 3-year period to adjust and should not expect high profit in the first years. I’ve been employed in various companies with different businesses and I can say the management differs only slightly and when you’ve been to one you’ll adjust easily to another. I just don’t know if I’ll cope up easily with herioin rehabilitation business or other companies in the medical field because I’m more comfortable with Engineering and Telecommunications field as my course is inclined with it. 

Well that shouldn’t be too hard either as I learned from 25 years of employment that every job and business can be learned and loved. You just have to be patient and should practice great amount of perseverance. Whether you’re the owner, the manager or the rank and file employee you should give your best shot for the company’s success. In the end every effort will be rewarded.

Enjoyable Job

I felt lazy going to work today and wished that the holiday yesterday would extend a day. Anyway that’s a common feeling when everyone else is having a long weekend and you’re not. I just hope that I’ll get a job without a Saturday again to enjoy more of my family’s time. I greatly missed bonding moments during weekend where I will cook special dish for them and enjoy just chatting the afternoon away. Oh well the only consolation is that we’re only working until 12 noon and if there are no additional tasks from the boss we can go home after lunch. 

Anyway in my previous work I need a lot of canvassing to make when there’s a need for equipment, computers, gadgets and sometimes accessories like beyerdynamic headphones or other music equipment when we have to join the trade fair. Since the company is such a small one I do some multitasking most of the times but I don’t mind because my load is just light and my time is just enough for my tasks. I also enjoy searching and purchasing musical and computer accessories so I get to enjoy my job. I love music and computers and searching for them is not tasking but enjoyable.

High Tech Booths at the Trade Fair

Two years ago in my previous company we were busy with preparing company brochures, promotional videos and demo equipment for our booth in trade fair. The trade fair was hosted by one of the major telecoms company in the country and they invited us to participate in the fair to introduce our products and help some companies in providing gateway and storage solutions. It’s my first real fair in Telecoms and I welcomed the experience. 

When the trade fair happened I was amazed not just in our own booth but in others as well. There are plenty of participants and not just in the telecoms industry only but in other fields like internet, construction, appliances, printing, phone solutions and a lot more. I opt to see the highly innovated ones first as I’m always interested to see high tech gadgets. There are video and audio equipment like alesis io4 which provides audio-recording interface and the guests welcomed the very informative demo aside from the background music created by the very impressive sample videos.

Well we also had our own viewers who were so impressed with our cloud storage solutions and gateway equipment. The business development manager of the host telecom company had a meeting with our boss and arranged a trial demo for bulk orders. The fair went well for two days and we enjoyed every moment of it. It was a nice exposure and promo for our products as well.

New Business for this Year

DH and I are thinking of good business to start this year to augment our funds for college schooling of our eldest. We’re thinking of renting chairs and tables for various occasions as we’re located in a community that loves celebrating several occasions in a year. My husband’s sister has a business of this kind in Great Britain and she decorates table and chairs with her own handmade and sewed chair covers and tablecloths. She also caters flowers and cake depends on the client’s request. 

Sometimes she asked us if we can find burlap fitted tablecloths for her other theme so she can collaborate it with her own creations. She’s very inspired in designing party interiors and themes that it reflects on the successful outcome of the occasion’s design. We admire not just her creative mind and hands but her intelligent management of her business. Wish we can pursue our plan and later plunge into covers also. We’re still praying for guidance if we will proceed with the business or think of another one.
