Finding the Best Contractor for Your Dream Home

>> Friday, July 14, 2017

Life is short, so why live in a house that’s less than a dream home? Yes, getting a home with all those special amenities, like a spa bathroom or a window seat in the master bedroom might seem like the stuff of interior design magazines, but it is possible. Many homeowners take charge of doing a home renovation by getting ideas from magazines and websites and then getting leads for contractors who can help make their home renovation a reality. How do they do it all?

Start With a Concept

A homeowner who wants to renovate their home should start getting ideas about what they want in their “new” home. There are great websites and magazines available that have loads of design ideas, with photos. These can be a great guide in visualizing what is really wanted in a newly redone home. Once a concept has been decided on, it’s wise to meet with a licensed contractor to work through the reality of achieving a real renovation.

Finding Contractors

Where does a homeowner find a great contractor? While in the past the search might be limited to a few referrals from friends, today there are some excellent websites available that have leads for great contractors with information about their past projects. All of this is invaluable information for finding the right person to make a home renovation work.

Once a good candidate has been found, a phone consultation should be arranged. That conversation can help clarify the details of the project, and give the homeowner a chance to talk out what they would really like to do with their home. The contractor can help give the “nuts and bolts” of the plans to the homeowner, and let them know what is really possible, and what the budget may be. If the estimate seems way too high, the contractor may be able to suggest changes that can bring the project’s costs down.

No, taking on a home renovation is not a small task. With the right professional expertise, however, that dream home can soon become an incredible reality. So start checking those websites, and get ready for the home you’ve always wanted.

Can’t Find a Job You Love? How to Find What You Lack

>> Sunday, January 22, 2017

You’re far from the only person who doesn’t experience job satisfaction. However, the fact that you’re considering ways to change that means you’re one step ahead of the pack. You’re not satisfied to continue to toil at your current job, but you have no idea how to proceed. What if you waste years and thousands of dollars going back to school only to not be satisfied with that career either? What if you have no idea what kind of career might make you happy? Fortunately, there are ways to discern what it is that’s holding you back and how to go forward.

Ask an Expert

Sign up for specialized career consulting online on your own schedule for as long as you feel you need guidance. The right expert will help you walk through an examination of your talents, interests, and experiences to come up with a viable career path that’s likely to lead to happiness. The expert can then help you break the goal of getting that job down into a step-by-step process and give you the direction and focus you may lack.

Look Over Your Resume

Perhaps you’re already qualified for a job you’d love, but you’re not having luck finding it. The right expert can also help you go over your current cover letter and resume to more accurately reflecting what you could bring to a company and better catch a prospective employer’s eye. It’s a competitive job marketplace, and you need every advantage possible to get the job that will bring you happiness.

Practice Your Interview

If you’ve had several job interviews but no job offers, something might be lacking in your interview skills. Practice job interviews with an expert in career counseling. Consider your answers to some of the most common types of questions so they roll off your tongue naturally when asked. Research the businesses that most interest you so you can ask intelligent questions about a company when in the room. Look also at the way you dress and present yourself and how often you smile and maintain eye contact during an interview. Job satisfaction is not just about finding a career you love, but finding a stable job that pays well and offers competitive benefits. The right guide will help you break down that goal into smaller, more easily achievable goals so you can save money and time. Often, what a person dissatisfied with her job lacks the most is simply direction.

Working For Your Own Company

>> Friday, September 25, 2015

It’s always better to have your own company or business to attend to instead of having an 8-hour office corporate job. Well the regular job is also good as it offers regular and stable income to pay for basic needs and monthly bills. I myself have been employed regularly for more than two decades on varied fields of business in electronics, transportation, consultancy, telecommunications, equipment distributorship and engineering. On all those companies that I worked with I was able to receive stable compensation to finance my family’s needs. This is also the reason why many people stick to a regular job even if sometimes the pay is not that big.

Now it’s different when you are the boss or when you’re working for own company because there are more benefits most of the times. You can decide your own time, your own schedule, strategy and marketing techniques. Same goes for some  owner operator trucking jobs who can enjoy the choice of choosing their loads to haul, the places they want to run, the time they want to dispatch the load, the number of loads and many other things that only an owner-operator can do. Most of them need to lease to a company so they will just choose the loads that meet their needs and to help with managing their dispatches.

Being your own boss gives you more responsibilities but it also gives you financial and work freedom. You just need to know the boundaries of your capabilities, the steps you need to take to make it successful, how to handle your finances wisely and the people or company you need to work with. Sometimes you need to have a working partner or you have to lease to a supplier who can give you clients for your business. There are several things to learn when you start your own business and more when you’re in the middle of it. The most important thing is you stay focused and work your way to your success.

Trucking Jobs Are on the Rise

>> Friday, September 11, 2015

According to recent new, there are more trucks on the highways these days. That is good, because this usually means that economic growth has increased. Many people do not think about trucking as an indicator of the job market. In fact, there is a strong correlation between big rigs and jobs overall. There are only three parts of the US economy that have more to do with our gross domestic product than transportation: food, health care and housing.

There are more trucks on the road, which means more goods are being shipped and sold, and there is more work in factories too. This also means of course, a lot of trucking jobs Cleveland in particular is seeing a rapid rise in trucking jobs.

A 2015 analysis from the Bureau of Economic Analysis found that transportation and warehouse jobs went up 17,000 in June of that year, and trucking jobs especially went up 7,000. This indicates that a trend is continuing from earlier in the year, with 19,000 brand new trucking jobs having been added in the last 90 days.

Overall, trucking jobs are increasing as the economy is getting better, and this is great news for all of us.

Working Away – Where's Best?

>> Sunday, October 20, 2013

People are increasingly exploiting the world market and taking advantage of employment opportunities abroad. With technologies such as email, Skype and mobile phones it's possible to work abroad and remain close to loved ones back home, eliminating the previous isolation emigrates might have felt. With so many opportunities on offer, it's often hard to decide where to go. Although many options will be limited depending on work availability, it's worth weighing up the pros and cons of where to start looking. So here are three of the best cities to work round the globe.

1. Amsterdam. Often dismissed as a pleasure seeker's paradise, there's far more to entice workers and visitors to this smart city. The pretty canals and bicycle friendly streets give this city the feel of a cosy town, meaning it's easy to adapt it as a home from home. Easily reachable by Eurostar, Amsterdam offers an easy first step to working away, knowing it's always an option to hop on a train and head home whenever needed.

2. Mumbai. The fourth most populous city on Earth, Mumbai (also known as Bombay) is the wealthiest city in India, meaning opportunities are in abundance. A cultural melting pot, all faiths are welcome meaning it's a tolerant and vibrant locality. A surprising draw might be the quality of beaches around Mumbai, allowing for lots of opportunities for relaxation when the nose isn't at the grindstone.

3. Adelaide. Australia has long held a draw for workers wanting to travel to a sunny but English speaking country. Adelaide is a planned city meaning its layout is friendly for a new 'local' to adapt to, it's also renowned for having a high standard of living. The defence industry has a strong foothold in Adelaide, showing its suitability for workers with specific skills and experience in the defence sector.

If these suggestions have whetted an appetite to travel it's best to undertake some employment law training in advance of moving abroad. Australian employment law for example will help unravel the complexities of the stringent visa rules. Similarly, understanding employment law in India will avoid any problems in either applying for or executing any new job role under the Indian sun. Because starting a new job is stressful enough without falling foul of the law: you want to spend your free time enjoying your new home, not fighting a legal case wishing you were back in Blighty.

The Biggest Little Job

>> Saturday, October 19, 2013

Every office and every business around the world is full of the people with the least glamorous jobs making the biggest difference. Newspapers regularly list the top CEOs from across the globe and list their contributions to their industries. However, it's not just the bigwigs who make the businesses a success: there may not be similar lists of top secretaries and warehouse operatives available but they're just as important.

The real staff who can make or break a business:

1. The receptionist. The first point of contact for most incoming communications, receptionists need to be friendly, quick at making decisions, and effective gatekeepers. Sifting the important post and phone calls from the junk requires an ability to make a quick judgement, especially in popular business where chancers might try to scam their way through to phone calls with important personnel.

2. The personal assistant. A good PA is worth their weight in gold. A walking calendar, a thorough PA will be able to say at a moment's notice the plans for the next six months without a bat of an eyelid. Trusted with finances to book hotels and flights for business trips, an eye for detail is also paramount as a watertight itinerary needs to be guaranteed every time.

3. The apprentice. The new kid on the block often gets short shrift, delegated the crummiest and most meaningless jobs, but this isn't how it should be. Making use of fresh ideas and talent, an apprentice comes enthusiastic and willing. Seeking feedback throughout the training will open insights into how procedures could be run better. And a well-treated apprentice will swiftly become a loyal employee.

4. Accounts department. Keeping tight tabs on the cash flow, accurate and trustworthy accounts staff are invaluable. Ensure they stay happy by keeping the Sage One software up to date and switching to user friendly online accounting and payroll software. Nobody wants to find their wages sabotaged by disgruntled money minders.

5. The cleaners. If you want to avoid norovirus (and who doesn't) be nice to the team of cleaners. It's a tough and usually underappreciated job, so make sure the cleaning staff, and their work, is appreciated. Don't leave your desk in a mess, and if you drop litter pick it up!

Essentially, remember that every member of staff is important and deserves respect. Because if there's anyone there who's not important they shouldn't be on the payroll.

Congress Opposes Higher Education – How about You?

>> Thursday, August 8, 2013

With Congress suggesting that college students should be responsible for paying off the deficit through increased interest rates on subsidized Stafford Loans, there is a question as to how valuable actual education is. It seems as if the government is either saying that education is not important or that education should only be for those who can afford it. Whether or not education is worth it may depend on what you believe comes with education and what education should be for. It is here that some people get confused.

Education Should Raise the Poor

For years, the poor have been told that if they just had the right education, they could get out of the poverty cycle. It is quite possible that Congress has recognized the fallacy of this argument as the jobs that have been created in the economy over the last 15 years are among the three lowest paying sectors in America. People with college degrees have a hard time getting these jobs because they are over qualified. Even if they do get a job in one of these sectors, it doesn’t pay for the school debt that the graduate has accumulated, and it is unfulfilling. If education is to help businesses get hirable employees, education in this type of economy becomes a burden to the rich and poor alike.

Capitalism and the Debt

While Congress has no problem with subsidizing corporations and “job creators,” it has an issue with subsidizing students who should earn more money after school than they would have without it. Shouldn’t the idea that corporations will create jobs that will employ people who will pay income taxes carry over to students as well? Students who have a college degree will earn more than people who didn’t go to school, and thus pay more income taxes? Instead, congress seems to have said that students may or may not earn more income and should be responsible for paying off a debt that they did not create at the national level. Those who want to explore more about the business side of the arguments can click here.

The 5 Most Common Interview Questions - and How to Answer Them

>> Tuesday, July 30, 2013

Heading to an interview can often be a nerve-wracking experience, but if you prepare ahead of time and have already planned out your answers to some of the most common questions you will be less anxious and prepared to go in there and get that job! Not all questions will be the same but most employers ask questions along the same lines so that they can learn particular things about you and decide whether you are the right person for the job. Sometimes employers will hire recruitment agencies such as One Key Resources to do their interviewing for them, so you won’t actually be talking to your employer until you get the job. Here are 5 of the most common interview questions that you might be asked.

Tell me about yourself?

When an interviewer asks you this question they don’t want to know too much about your personal life and they definitely don’t want to hear that your boyfriend just dumped you, or any other dramas. What they are really asking is give me an overview of who you are professionally. This question is generally asked at the beginning of an interview, basically to get a broad background before they go into the specifics about who you are.

What are your strengths?

This is your chance to talk yourself up and tell them about all the skills you have that will make you the best person for the job. Its time to tell them what a great communicator you are and how you are a team player and what you will bring to the workplace as an employee. They want to get a picture about how you will fit in with the rest of the team.

Why did you leave your last job?

Firstly, be positive, even if you feel you were treated unfairly. Make sure you reframe everything about your last position in anupbeat way that shows that you hold no grudges and that you understood whyyour employment needed to come to an end at that time. Talk to your interviewer about your previous job in the same way that they would want you to be talking about their workplace when/ if you leave their company, should you be successful.

What questions do you have for me?

The best interviews are conversations not interrogations. When the interviewer gives you the opportunity to ask questions, this is a great opportunity for you to show them that you have researched their company by asking a relevant question about the industry. Also remember to ask when the

What problems and challenges did you face in your last position?

This is an opportunity for you to demonstrate that you were able to overcome challenges. Prepare for this question by thinking about situations or challenges that you faced in your last job and how you overcame them. Show them that you are a good communicator and that you were a team player in your response.

Why Roadies Love Their Jobs, & How to Get That Career

>> Tuesday, December 11, 2012

None of the big concerts you have gone to, or will go to, would happen without a crew of dedicated roadies working, in some cases, around the clock. It can actually be quite easy to become a professional roadie and the work can be extremely rewarding. The only thing you need to be prepared for is a lot of hard work and long hours. But for many roadies that do the job their entire lives, the long hours and the hard work are big reasons why they do it.

How To Get Started

The best way to get started being a roadie is to get as much experience as you can working for anyone you can. You can approach local bands in your area and offer to roadie for them at no cost. This is considered valuable work experience and it is something every roadie goes through.

Moving Up

Image via Flickr by gandalf.blanco

Even working for a local band will give you invaluable experience in how to coordinate a show load-in, performing a proper set up and then coordinating tasks during and after the show. Once you feel like you have an understanding of what it means to be a roadie, it is time to put your name in to the local theaters in your area and offer your services.

If you need a union card, then find out how to get one and put your name into the union theaters. If you put your name into enough theaters, you will get call backs to act as a roadie for a variety of acts. As you work for the different acts that come through your town, be sure that you give all of the road managers your name and number. Before you know it, you will be traveling with a real rock band and making a living as a roadie.

Skills

Image via Flickr by maol

The best roadies in the music business are the ones that have a variety of marketable skills that they either take classes for or learn over time. If you want to stay busy as a roadie and make good money, then learn how to be a sound technician, lighting technician, guitar technician, drum technician or any other specialized skill that bands need. Of course, the most important skill a good roadie learns is how to be reliable and dedicated to the job.

The Benefits

Image via Flickr by Earl - What I Saw 2.0

When you are a roadie for Brad Paisley, then you never have to pay for Brad Paisley tickets. As a roadie, you get to see some of the best bands in the world and get paid for it. You will also be getting paid to travel the world and see areas of some of the largest music venues that most people never get to see.

The stories told by professional touring musicians are only rivaled by the stories that roadies tell. Roadies are important parts of the music business and they have life experiences that most people only dream of.

Nursing Magazine

>> Tuesday, August 21, 2012

Health care jobs are one of the noblest jobs that I can count on my list. Everyone in this field seems to exert extra effort in caring for people who needs treatment, care and attention when they’re in hospitals or clinic. I have nurse friends who are in this field and witnessed how they devote their life to patient service even when they also needs caring when they’re sick. I actually admire their dedication in performing their duties especially those assigned in emergency section where cases of extreme sickness are common. I have experienced being in emergency room and not everyone can stand being there but if you see the doctors and nurses attending the patients you’ll see their strength, perseverance and patience in giving treatment to patients.

For me it’s a tough job and compared to other fields it seems others are easier and lighter because when they fail to give their best their patient’s life will be at stake. Anyway seeing the importance of nurse attitude towards work and their skills and knowledge it brought some thoughts to my mind that indeed they need something that will update their medical knowledge and if possible they can also search for opportunities on how to advance their skills. As the nursing profession is fast advancing through emerging technology they should be able to adapt to modern medical changing times. They also need further and continued education to be able to give their full service to health care industry.

With this in mind it’s good that there’s Nursing 2013, the ultimate source for clinical and professional information, equipment updates, latest news and more. If the nurses need some quick updates on some topics in nursing they can refer to the magazine for help. It also has ample information on diseases, drugs, strategies on nursing care and legal matters as well. If they want to continue or advance their education they also offer plenty of opportunities to their skills advancement. So if you want to keep ahead in insightful readings, best practices and nursing techniques used in clinics, hospital and ER this magazine will keep you ahead.

Applying For a Job

>> Sunday, April 22, 2012

When applying for a job the first thing that you have to prepare is a well-written resume aside from your credentials in college and certificates of training. Since resume is where you put all pertinent data about yourself it should be done with perfect care and attention. It should have list of work experiences so the company you’re applying to will know your capabilities in handling work. Some companies have their own resume where they will ask you to fill it up. One of those that I know of is the kroger application form where you can fill up and write about work history, training/seminars, contact information, references and skills. It should help you get through your exam and job interview.

IT Staff Augmentation Services

>> Tuesday, November 1, 2011

When we were just a start-up company we didn’t want to hire some staff that we need only for a certain job and for a certain time for budget purposes. Since any company would need some things that only IT experts and specialists can do we need to hire their services for a given contract period only. We actually need a web development service then because we want to start with a good web site for our telecoms company. My former boss built his telecommunications company when I was in his consultancy firm and while I was in his other company I’m also involved in his newly started business. The business was so promising and since he wants someone to monitor and administer it he asked me to transfer so I could look into the business more closely. It was a diversion from my current job and it required me to study finance and human resource as well.

As for the IT staff augmentation services that we need he has some resources just like Modis which provides the best IT talent and resources for specific needs of any business you have. They offer IT staffing, consulting and recruitments services of temporary professionals that can help your own company’s team goals and requirements. They have a cadre of over 1 million candidates that you can choose from and they can assure you that all IT staff they provide has undergone screening and necessary examinations to give their clients the best service ever. Their services include web development; systems analysis; business analysis; network engineering and administration; technical writing; data base design; development and administration and a lot more IT services.

Best Job in Store for Him

>> Monday, October 31, 2011

DH has been in warehousing jobs for several years and I can say that he’s very good in his job although they have manual procedures in their warehouse system. It’s a tough job to handle stocks and more if you have to arrange it in a small warehouse. He has resigned from his job and studying Electronics now but still he remembers how his job has almost cost his health. His health worsened when he was given extended working hours and before it’s too late I asked him to quit his job. Health is more important than his job and I don’t want him to continue doing the things that brings hazard to his health.

I told him that he’ll be able to get better job and working condition if he’s a degree holder. Now he’s enjoying his studies and excels in almost all his subjects. He’ll be graduating from Electronics Technology this semester and will shift to Education next year. He’s finalizing his plans to pursue degree course and I know that whatever will be his final decision it’s for a good cause. He found out last week that there’s opening for Datawarehouse Designer Jobs with a good salary package but he opt to continue with his studies than apply for a new job. He promised himself that he’ll finish what he started and he’s going to be an instructor soon. God will never forsake him and has the best job in store for him when he finished college.

Admin Jobs

>> Friday, March 5, 2010

I’ve tried many jobs in the past and though some of them are completely out of my college course I’ve got training from my friend Meline who was an accounting associate. She takes care of the payroll and I take care of the admin jobs which she is not so familiar with. I do billing and collection work online together with arrangement of monthly association dues of the tenants in our building. I had a multitasking job back then doing almost all aspects in human resources and accounting. I didn’t regret it of course because I learned a lot from my previous works. Being a graduate of Computer Engineering I thank God that He has allowed me to learn many things which make me a better qualified employee.

Online Job Search

It’s always been nice to transfer to another job at the first month of the year but now I have observed that some find it better to do it after the first month like the husband of my niece. Well it depends on the expiration of your contract with other company or depending upon your situation or rank with the company. I remember few years back when I only have the time to do my job search online so I will not be absent from my work. It’s very convenient for me back then because I don’t have to leave my work and my paycheck wouldn’t be affected with my incurred absences.

Now that I’m doing my work at home I also do my job search for writing opportunities online. The internet world has bountiful job opportunities. I’m just glad that I’m working in the comfort of my home. Thanks God!

Better Opportunities

>> Monday, December 28, 2009

Back to work now after the fellowship vacation which gave me new energy and strength to face daily challenges and problems. We arrived Sunday night but I didn’t do my online tasks right away I just checked my emails and started my tasks only tonight. It’s just that the holiday season is taking up so much of my time that my schedule is up to my neck. I’m glad that I didn’t have to report to my office after my holiday vacation because I’m just working at home and I can plan my own schedule of working just like what I’m doing now.

I find myself lucky with my present situation now and I’m sharing it with my friends who are looking for new jobs now outside the country. They heard some good paying work in jobs philadelphia and they want to try their luck abroad. It’s a normal story here in our place when employees can’t seem to get to augment their financial status. They think that working abroad can help their lives get better even if it would mean sacrifice of not seeing their families for years.

Landing Finance Jobs

>> Saturday, April 18, 2009

When a friend or relative learns that I’m resigning from my job they always tell me to think it over as job opportunities now are getting fewer and I might not land into another job that will give me a stable income. They’re right but they just don’t know how hard it is to handle finance jobs as I find it very delicate to handle. When you’re in a finance or accounting department you have to careful in disclosing figures as the job demands for strict confidentiality and honesty of course.

As of now I just can’t really figure out how a computer engineering graduate landed a position in finance department, I supposed it depends on how your boss sees how wide you can expand your horizon in learning new things and accepting challenges in life.
